Trainee Script Editor
Salary £18,231 per annum pro rata

There is a wealth of diverse and gifted screenwriters working in British film. In order to support and nurture both the current and next generation of writers, we believe the industry would benefit from an increased number of Script Editors with real industry experience.

With this in mind, the BFI Film Fund has launched an eight month Trainee Script Editor placement and we are now looking to recruit. This placement will consist of six months within the BFI Film Fund and two months within an active production company.

Given the wide range and volume of projects supported by the BFI Film Fund, the successful applicant will have a truly unique opportunity to be exposed to writers of all levels of experience, and across all genres.  Examples of recent films supported by the Film Fund are Steve McQueen’s SHAME, Phyllida Lloyd’s THE IRON LADY, Ken Loach’s THE ANGEL’S SHARE, James Watkins’ THE WOMAN IN BLACK, Martin McDonagh’s SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS, Ben Wheatley’s SIGHTSEERS and recent Cannes success Clio Barnard's THE SELFISH GIANT.

The successful candidate will be invited to shadow BFI Film Fund executives on multiple projects during their placement and participate in their meetings with writers, directors and producers.  The candidate will also be expected to read scripts, provide script coverage, generate written script notes and deliver notes verbally in meetings.

During the placement, the candidate will be invited to have 1:1 sessions with Executives and Story Editors within the Film Fund and also with leading external Script Editors.

The successful candidate will have two years experience in the Film or TV Industry and a demonstrable interest in storytelling, screenwriting and script development. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to read a script and write a script report.

Further details about the post (including an information pack) can be obtained by visiting www.bfi.org.uk/about-bfi/job-opportunities or by email: jobs@bfi.org.uk.

The closing date for applications is 23 September 2013 and interviews will be held on 11 October 2013.
